Champagne&Chukkas, Remax Cup

Saturday 15th of June was party-day at Pijaubert: Four teams lined up in front of some 150 spectators to play against one another for the Remax Cup, the first tournament in this year’s Champagne & Chukkas series.
To make it special we had old friends Constant Jacquot and his pa Jean-Robert who trucked their ponies all the way down from Lyon to play with us as the Lyon team (what else could we call it ?) Friends Ouari Bedou and Hocine Boudouaia from Aix-en-Provence teamed up with Kinga Nowakowska who flew in from Warsaw for the event (next time we’ll call it the Warsaw team, but this time it was Aix), Jamie & Alexia Pike teamed up under Pijaubert Polo colours with Ekaterina Prunkova from Moscow and Gary Pike teamed up with Lynne Patmore (UK) and Yann Depeille (Argentina) for Remax.

It was good to see Lahcene El Hamri back in the saddle to umpire the matches, and keep it all Fast and Fair.

After a fun day’s polo Aix came out as overall winners, Lyon came second, Pijaubert Polo third whilst Remax took a thorough throuncing and was awarded real wooden spoons at the prize-giving (I guess they won’t sponsor us next year …)

The day was a tremendous success thanks to help from a sea of volunteers, (thank you all), and was rounded off by an Argentine-style asado which went on until late into the night. Once again we demonstrated that polo at Pijaubert is an ecological sport in which no fossil-fuels are consumed thanks to an judicious use of ethanol.

We would like to thank everybody who came and made the day so special, our sponsors, Velier wines and spirits in Italy and Remax Cannes.
